July 1

Wow, it's already July!
Yesterday I hiked up Songinbong and down through Nari-bunji.  The forest trail in Nari-bunji had some informative signs of plants in the area, so that was cool. All in all it turned out to be about an 8 mile trip.
Total plant species count is 175.  Have to look at how many birds I have.

Dodong-ri (the pirate cove) from the path up to Songinbong trailhead

Dryopteris pseudofilix-mas

Alangium platanifolium

Lichen it!

Finally figured this one out and it only took me looking up all the accepted species of Ixeris on The Plant List: Ixeris stolonifera

I was finally on Songinbong when it was clear out

The forest around Songinbong was just filled with Lilium hansonii

Desmodium podocarpum

I just love all the cool Lepidopteras here

View from a lookout on the way down to Nari

Athyrium brevifrons

Oenothera odorata - very strangely, there was a large patch of these just in a little fenced-in area. They were nowhere else
Gymnadenia camtschatica (orchid) - according to one of the signs in Nari

Mountains around Nari

A traditional Korean house in Nari

There were these really cool moths...

Blue-and-white Flycatcher - I got a recording of him singing that I'll edit when I get back

Another plant that was bugging me: Lactuca indica var. laciniata

Rubia cordifolia

Trillium tschonoskii fruit - you know the species because of the small size of the flower compared to the leaves

Silene armeria

Speaking of identifying plants that have been bothering me: Epipactis papillosa
At first I thought this was a Cephalanthera, but then I looked up Epipactis because it was listed as a synonym for a Cephalanthera species.  This one wasn't in any of my guides so I resorted to the online text version of Flora of Japan (if the plant isn't endemic or in Korea then it has to be in Japan).  Anyways, I found it and it's no longer bothering me
